My name is Lisa Bolton, I am the provincial Director (Saskatchewan) for the ORNAC board. I was born and raised in small town Hafford, Saskatchewan, daughter of a registered nurse. My mother made me swear I would never be a nurse, and having no interest in that line of work, it was an easy promise to make; but not so easy to keep as I graduated from the University of Saskatchewan in 1995 with my Bachelors of Science in Nursing. I’ve spent almost 24 years of my almost 26 year career in the Operating Room. I feel blessed to have found the area of nursing that feels like home to me. I have worked as an OR nurse in both Swift Current and Saskatoon, SK. My experiences in the OR have been vast; I’ve resourced Oral Maxillofacial Surgery, General Surgery, and Anesthesia, been a preceptor for fourth year nursing students and for students of the perioperative program, been an educator, been an instructor of the perioperative program, and through all of this a consistent rule follower and general stick in the mud.
I was a member of our provincial OR association for many years off and on when kids and my volunteer work wasn’t overwhelming. Then in 2014 when it looked like our provincial group was ready to fold, I offered that if Margaret Farley (past president) would take on the president role again, I would be president elect and learn the job from her. That was supposed to be a six year commitment, which has turned into what will be a ten year commitment, and through that came my opportunity to be the provincial ORNAC director.
All I ever wanted to do was help people. Now my passion has grown to promoting the value of the perioperative registered nurse in this great country. There are so many ways that we can do more and be more in our jobs; we just need the desire, the opportunity, and the encouragement to push us to the next level.

Sharon has been a perioperative nurse for twenty years. Starting in the main operating room at the Saint John Regional Hospital, she eventually migrated to the cardiac OR where she finally found her niche. Ten years later, Sharon began work as a perioperative nurse educator for the three smaller hospitals within the Saint John zone. This morphed into a manager position in the OR at Saint Joseph’s Hospital for three years. Although Sharon enjoyed her time at Saint Joseph’s, she really missed her work directly in the operating room with critically ill patients. So, she returned to the cardiac OR. Sharon was introduced to NBORN by a close colleague, and has had an interest in NBORN and ORNAC ever since. Certified in perioperative nursing in 2003, Sharon continues to enjoy her work.
