Mercy Ships is currently looking for RNs or Operating Department Practitioners to fill leadership positions on our ship, Africa Mercy.

Specifically, we need RNs or Operating Department Practitioners for:

• Operating Room Educator
• Anaesthetic Assistant Team Leader
• Operating Room Team Leader

The Operating Room Team Leader coordinates daily function, supply, patient schedule and records in the operating room.

• Currently there are three openings: Orthopaedic, Maxillofacial/Plastics, and the General/VVF operating rooms.
• Preference given to applications making two year commitment. Positions are available in February 2010.
• Should to be knowledgeable of OR procedures, standards and equipment specific to one of the specialties previously listed.
• Must have a current nursing/registration in home country. Prior team leader experience in one of the specialties listed is required.

The Anaesthetic Assistant Team Leader (for anaesthesia RN, Tech, or ODP) assists anaesthesia staff in providing anaesthetic care. Team Leader is to maintain inventory of anaesthetic related materials and maintain anaesthetic equipment in conjunction with biomedical technician.

• The preferred minimum time commitment is two years starting in February 2010.
• Must have a current nursing/operating department practitioner/technician license in home country.

The Operating Room Educator is responsible for orientating short term OR staff and facilitating training of local OR nurses.

• The preferred minimum time commitment is two years starting in February 2010.
• Must have a current nursing license in home country. Also needed is prior teaching or educator experience and preferable advance perioperative nursing qualification.
• Minimum 5 years OR experience both scrub & circulate. Prefer anaesthetic and PACU skills also.

For all of these positions we prefer a long-term commitment (2 years), which requires both an Introduction to Mercy Ships and entry Gateway program.
